I have a question about this topic since I have read on sites that I can not do it and on others that I do.

I have a published and active Google Play app, I have changed Admob with my ID, I would like to know if I can also change the package ID or bundle ID and simply update my application after this. Can it be done or does the package ID have to be the same? I do not want to create a new app, which is already published and I'm only interested in an update.

Can it be done?

NO!

The package of the application (package id) is actually a unique identifier of the application.

If you want to change the package ID, Google Play Store will take it as a different application. If you want to perform an update, your .apk must have the same package ID.
