About R and his GPL-3 license

2

Being R distributed under license GPL-3 ,

Should not all packages and other Scripts be distributed under the same license? I ask, because I have seen that many packages are distributed under other licenses as MIT.

It is not necessary, GPLP allows what are known as "compatible" licenses, even under certain circumstances you can distribute proprietary software. For more information on compatible licenses, I suggest you see this link.

If you make a derivative of the source code of the implementation of R (for example: a new version of R that does different things, a product that modifies the R language), that product < em> has to be distributed with the GPL3 license. However, the R code may be distributed under any license independently of the license of R. These are two independent aspects.

For example: MATLAB is a proprietary product, but I can publish MATLAB code with any license.
